A hand appears from behind the wall, woven from the same interlacing ribbon that runs through the entire piece. It reaches in and paints the eye showing it exactly what it’s meant to see. Nothing is discovered here; it’s placed there, deliberately, by a hand that doesn’t belong to this world.

Beside it, a face built from the same ribbon is a witness. She takes no part in the act. She watches, or perhaps thinks, aware that what’s forming beside her isn’t something she chose to see.

The piece was painted in Teufelsberg, the former Cold War listening station built on the rubble of postwar Berlin a site once used to intercept what was said and heard, now holding a piece about who decides what we see.

Shaping Reality is about that quiet handover: the moment before perception, where someone else has already decided what you’ll find. The sizes of the mural are: 900 x 500 cm.
