Modern Art – From Pop Art to Street Art
Dates: April 1 – August 10, 2025
Venue: Gut Altenkamp, Aschendorf (Papenburg), Germany
Curated by: Anke Doepner
Featuring: Otto Schade, Bananensprayer, Dr. Molrok, Jim Avignon
This group exhibition, curated by Anke Doepner, brought together four distinctive voices in contemporary Urban and Pop Art. Hosted in the historic setting of Gut Altenkamp, an 18th-century Baroque manor in northern Germany, the show explored the intersections between street culture, consumer critique, and pop iconography through a variety of visual languages.
The exhibition featured bold original works, including paintings, installations, and mixed media pieces that blur the boundaries between public expression and gallery art. Each artist contributed a unique approach to visual storytelling—ranging from playful symbolism to social commentary and radical material experimentation.
-
Otto Schade presented his signature ribbon-style paintings and sculptural works that combine poetic surrealism with biting political undertones.
-
Jim Avignon offered vibrant, emotionally charged imagery that reflects on hypermodern life, digital culture, and human vulnerability.
-
Bananensprayer used his iconic banana motif to critique the commodification of art and the absurdities of consumerism with sharp humor.
-
Dr. Molrok disrupted conventional formats through the use of raw materials and abstract forms, creating sculptural interventions that provoke and challenge.
Modern Art – From Pop Art to Street Art positioned these four artists as cultural observers and visual disruptors, each reinterpreting the language of Pop and Street Art to reflect contemporary concerns in a rapidly changing world.
